Groups Head to Court to Support State, Treadwell Decision to Stop Set Netter Ban Initiative

 Resources for All Alaskans has submitted a legal brief in support of the State of Alaska’s decision to prevent the Set Netter Ban initiative from proceeding to the August 2016 ballot. Lieutenant Governor Mead Treadwell announced that decision in January based on advice from the Department of Law that the Set Netter Ban is unconstitutional. The initiative sponsors are now suing the State in Superior Court. In addition to its brief in support of the State of Alaska’s position, Resources for All Alaska will continue to supplement the state’s legal arguments and work to avoid ill-conceived allocation of state assets by way of an unconstitutional initiative.

Resources for All Alaskans is a growing statewide coalition that includes concerned citizens and organizations from fishing communities who oppose the misuse of ballot initiatives to improperly allocate or restrict our state’s vast natural resources http://www.resourcesforalaska.com/.

The organization is composed of a 6-member board, including President Jim Butler; Vice President John Garner; Jerry McCune; Dale Kelley; Duncan Fields; and Robin Samuelson. The group’s Advisory Council includes Loren Leman, Roy Huhndorf, Clem Tillion, Norm Van Vactor, Bristol Bay Economic Development, Paul Dale, Snug Harbor Seafoods, Julianne Curry, United Fishermen of Alaska; Brian Lynch, Petersburg Vessel Association; the Alaska Trollers Association, Kenai Peninsula Fisherman’s Association, Alaska Salmon Alliance, and the Southeast Alaska Fisherman Association.

Together, the coalition represents hundreds of millions in capital investment and thousands of Alaska jobs.
