{"id":7134,"date":"2013-12-08T03:51:52","date_gmt":"2013-12-08T12:51:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aksalmonalliance.org\/staging1\/?p=7134"},"modified":"2013-12-08T03:51:52","modified_gmt":"2013-12-08T12:51:52","slug":"cook-inlet-commercial-salmon-worth-350m-in-2011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aksalmonalliance.org\/staging1\/2013\/12\/08\/cook-inlet-commercial-salmon-worth-350m-in-2011\/","title":{"rendered":"Cook Inlet commercial salmon worth $350M in 2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BY MOLLY DISCHNER, ALASKA JOURNAL OF COMMERCE<\/p>\n<p>How much is the salmon coming out of Cook Inlet worth?<\/p>\n<p>According to a recent report produced for the Alaska Salmon Alliance, the fishery had a $54 million ex-vessel, or dockside, value in 2011, and $102 million in direct value to the region.<\/p>\n<p>The analysis was done by Northern Economics, and examines commercial fishing economic impacts on the Kenai Peninsula, and throughout the state.<\/p>\n<p>Alaska Salmon Alliance Executive Director Arni Thomson said the Cook Inlet salmon fishery\u2019s overall economic impact to the region was estimated at $350 million.<\/p>\n<p>That dollar figure, which Northern Economics arrived at using multipliers it developed in 2011 for the Marine Conservation Alliance, includes things like fuel purchases, maintenance done locally, accountants hired by fishing operations and other related economic activity that stems from fishing.<\/p>\n<p><em>Due to copyright law, the Alaska Salmon Alliance cannot repost this article in full.
