{"id":7808,"date":"2014-02-11T15:57:52","date_gmt":"2014-02-12T00:57:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aksalmonalliance.org\/staging1\/?p=7808"},"modified":"2014-02-11T15:57:52","modified_gmt":"2014-02-12T00:57:52","slug":"bof-changes-commercial-drift-fishing-in-cook-inlet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aksalmonalliance.org\/staging1\/2014\/02\/11\/bof-changes-commercial-drift-fishing-in-cook-inlet\/","title":{"rendered":"BOF changes commercial drift fishing in Cook Inlet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Rashah McChesney \/ Peninsula Clarion \/ February 10, 2014<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the Alaska Board of Fisheries approved several changes to the Central District Drift Gillnet Fishery Management Plan outlined in a proposal submitted by the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Fish and Wildlife Commission.<\/p>\n<p>After more than an hour of discussion, the board voted unanimously to adopt the new regulation that includes provisions establishing a 1 percent rule for the fishery in August and a new area to fish called the Anchor Point section.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;The new Anchor Point section starts just south of the Kasilof section, near Ninilchik and runs down the shoreline before terminating near Anchor Point.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;Dyer VanDevere, Cook Inlet drift fisher, said the new Anchor Point section would be chaotic as the drift fleet would be competing with halibut fishers and private boats that put out into the inlet at the Anchor Point boat launch.<\/p>\n<p><em>Due to copyright law, the Alaska Salmon Alliance cannot repost full articles.
