\nEditor\u2019s note: This is the first of two parts in reporter Molly Dischner\u2019s journey with a Homer fishing family to Bristol Bay on the eve of sockeye season.<\/p>\n

PILE BAY \u2013 It\u2019s noon, Iliamna Lake is calm, and half a dozen fishermen are sitting around in the grass outside the bathroom at Pile Bay using free wi-fi.<\/p>\n

A soon-to-be setnetter makes a Facebook page for another fisherman. His brother (and this reporter) pitch in with photos and suggestions for friends. The three of us are riding to Naknek with Louie Flora and his daughter Sidney onboard the F\/V Eagle Claw.<\/p>\n

\u201cDid you know they\u2019re making me a Facebook account?\u201d Louie Flora asked his daughter Sidney, who\u2019s traveling to Bristol Bay with him for her first fishing season.<\/p>\n

He doesn\u2019t sound entirely excited about this. Sidney is more enthusiastic.<\/p>\n

\u201cCool,\u201d she said, making sure that devices are charging in all four outlets in the bathroom so that there\u2019s ample entertainment for the next leg of the trip to Bristol Bay.<\/p>\n
